Contract work for mechanics offers the chance to work on a huge variety of equipment and specialist vehicles, and whether you are carrying out routine services and checks or diagnosing and repairing faults, no two days are ever the same.
You will also be expected to service, inspect, maintain and repair vehicles to industry standards too.

“My day begins at 7am when I report to my supervisor to find out what I need to do for the day. It could be that I have work to carry on from the day before, or there may be a new job to start and paperwork to fill in._
“Every day is different – I could either be in the workshop working on a vehicle, or I could be sent to check for parts that are located all over base, or even to look for a specific vehicle._You’re always busy though – and even if you’re not working on a vehicle, you could be doing housekeeping, or perhaps vehicle movement._
“As well as the variety, one of the things I like best about my role is the camaraderie between us all and working together as a team. It’s a hard-working, rewarding, yet really sociable environment and I’ve definitely made some friends for life here._
“There’re plenty of chances to progress if you’re willing to put in the work, and there are also opportunities to complete training courses from first aid courses to health and safety training. All in all, I find working as a contract mechanic to be a rewarding, challenging and exciting career path.
“During my job search, the M&E team was there every step of the way, whether they were providing interview advice or just calling to check that I understood everything about the process and if I had any questions. I really can’t fault the experience!”
